Lebenslauf

Ernst M. Felberbauer was trained as an infantry officer in the Austrian Armed Forces before earning a degree in Geography and Economics and English and in Political Science and Contemporary History. Following teaching assignments in Great Britain and Spain, Mr. Felberbauer joined the National Defence Academy in Vienna in 1996 and subsequently worked at the Armed Forces Language Institute and the Institute for Military Geography.

From 2001 to 2002, he managed the Institute for Peace Support and Conflict Management at the Defence Academy. In 2003 he was appointed Head of the Research Management and Organisation Section at the Bureau for Security Policy at the Austrian MOD.

Mr. Felberbauer was seconded to the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) from 2003 to 2004 and in charge of coordinating the 6th International Security Forum in Montreux. This was followed by an assignment at the Permanent Mission of Austria to the United Nations in New York, where he held the post of Military Advisor to the International Peace Institute (IPI) from 2005 to 2006.

From 2007 to 2009, he was appointed Assistant to the Director DCAF in Geneva and tasked with setting up DCAF Ljubljana responsible for implementing the Police Cooperation Convention for South East Europe (PCC SEE).

In his capacity as international conference coordinator, Mr. Felberbauer was in charge of organising - among others - the ISFAT 2001, MENA 2002, the NATO Conference of Commandants in 2003 and the Annual Conference of the PfP Consortium in 2005, all in Vienna. Recently, he was responsible for coordinating the 6th and 8th International Security Forum (ISF) in Montreux 2004 and Geneva 2009 and supported the 7th ISF in Zurich 2006.

Since 2010, Mr. Felberbauer is Head of Research Management at the Austrian National Defence Academy and Austrian representative in the Executive Academic Board of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC) and to the Steering Committee of the PfP Consortium of Defense Academies and Security Studies Institutes.
